Connecting an app
Add your app’s address and start page, sign in through the secure browser if it needs one, and choose what a video may change.
Add your app
Only owners and admins can connect an app, sign in to it on its page, and change what a video may do. Members can make videos of any connected app, except, in the dashboard, one set to forget its sign-in after each video (see below). Through your AI assistant, anyone in the workspace can start one and gets a sign-in link.
- Open Apps and choose Connect an app.
- Give it a Name, and paste its App URL: the address your users open, such as https://app.example.com.
- If videos should start somewhere other than that address, set the Start page path, for example /dashboard.
- Under Access, choose Public (no sign-in needed) or Requires sign-in.
- Under What may the demo change?, keep View only (safest), or choose Limited changes and describe the Allowed changes. Any changes and a reset link are set on the app’s page after you save. More on this below.
- Fill in About the app (optional) if you like: what the app does and who uses it. Every video of the app gets it.
- Choose Save app. You land on the app’s page.
From your AI assistant. Owners and admins can also skip these steps: ask your assistant for a video of your site by its address, and it adds the app for you. Anyone in the workspace who asks for a video of an app that needs a sign-in gets a sign-in link. See Using the MCP.
Sign in through the secure browser
If your app Requires sign-in, its page starts with 1. Sign in to your app. Only owners and admins can Connect, Reconnect or change Forget my session after each video. An owner or admin chooses Connect, and a secure browser opens in a window called Sign in to your app. Sign in as you normally would, including any two-factor step. Finish on a page only signed-in users can see, such as your dashboard, then choose I’m signed in. We check the sign-in and keep it as an encrypted signed-in session. We never see or store your password.
To reach the window’s buttons from the keyboard, press Esc twice to leave the browser.
Tick Forget my session after each video if you’d rather sign in before every video. Each new video then opens the secure browser first, and only owners and admins may sign in there, so in the dashboard only an owner or admin can start videos of that app. Through your AI assistant, anyone in the workspace can start one and gets a sign-in link.
Run the connection test
An owner or admin chooses Run connection test on the app’s page. We open your start page the way a video will, signed in if your app needs it, and show a screenshot of what we saw. If it looks wrong, check the App URL and the Start page path. An app that needs a sign-in must be signed in first.
You then land on your apps list. When the test passes, we read your app’s navigation and the pages it links to, so videos can say what each section is for. The app shows Learning… for a few minutes, then Ready. Videos you start meanwhile wait for it. The app’s page shows the screenshot and What we learned: each section, what it holds and when you’d use it. We never open sign-out or delete links. If your app changes, an owner or admin can choose Forget and relearn.
What a video may change
To film your app, we click and type in it. The What the demo may change card on the app’s page sets how far that may go. Owners and admins choose one of three modes:
- View only: the demo reads and navigates; nothing is changed. The default.
- Limited changes: only the changes you describe.
- Any changes: create, edit, delete, send, pay and change settings. For an account kept for demos.
For Limited changes, describe the Allowed changes in a sentence, such as “Put units on hold and release them”. For Any changes, you tick a box to confirm that the account may be changed, even permanently. Use an account you keep for demos.
In every mode the demo never signs out, changes the sign-in (password, email, two-factor), deletes the account or leaves your app.
The reset link
In Limited changes or Any changes, you can add a Reset link (optional): an https address on your side that puts the demo account back as it was. When you save it, we call it once as a test, and it must answer with a success response (2xx) within 15 seconds. If the test fails, nothing is saved. Before every run, we call it again and wait up to 2 minutes for a success response. Once the link is saved, choose Test reset link on the app’s page to try it at any time.
Every call is signed. When you first save a reset link, the app’s page shows its signing secret once: copy it then, because it won’t be shown again. Regenerate signing secret makes a new one, shown once the same way, and the old one stops working.
Without a reset link, changes happen several times per video: in rehearsals, checks and the recording. Undo them yourself, or use a throwaway account.
If the reset link fails during a video, new videos of that app wait until you test the link and it passes. The request we send, and how to check its signature, are in the API reference.
Reconnecting when a sign-in expires
Saved sign-ins don’t last forever. When yours expires, the app shows Reconnect needed, and you can’t start videos of it until you sign in again. An owner or admin opens the app’s page, chooses Reconnect, and signs in in the secure browser as before. If you’re not an owner or admin, ask one to do it, or ask your AI assistant for a video of the app: anyone in the workspace who asks gets a sign-in link. While the app is signed in, an owner or admin can remove the saved sign-in altogether: choose Disconnect.
